Meet the Educational Director

Sherry Bent - Educational Director

Sherry has experienced a successful and diversified career in education and has won a number of awards in curriculum design, economics, creative writing and science.

She came to England on a coveted Fulbright Scholarship in 1991 to teach in Birmingham. She then moved to London and has lived in north London ever since. She has worked in a number of educational leadership roles in mathematics, literacy, foreign language, IT, gifted and talented, music, curriculum development and supervision.

After teaching in London primary schools from nursery through year 6 for a number of years, she became a specialist in literacy and worked as a consultant for ARK Schools from 2007 – 2012. She then worked as a teaching consultant at School 21 in Stratford supporting both staff and students in all aspects of literacy.

Sherry owns and operates Brandenburg Bent Tutorials Ltd, a tutorial school supporting students in their preparation for exams. Additionally, she continues to teach English and maths to children struggling with the curriculum. One of her passions is working with children from disadvantaged backgrounds and she is the chairman of Real Action, a charity that teaches a pure phonetic approach to teaching reading in inner city London.

Sherry has received a number of accolades including “Teacher of the Year” in her school system in the U.S., as well as being awarded a “Woman of Achievement” award at her university. In 2010 she was elected to the “Hall of Fame” at her Ohio high school.

She received two Masters Degrees with honours in both educational curriculum and development, as well as administration and supervision. Sherry has taken additional courses in the U.K. at King’s College, Oxford University, St Mary’s College in Belfast and the Institute of Education in London.

Developing literacy in other countries has also played a role over the last ten years. Sherry has worked in both India and South Africa for ARK Schools and has tutored in Antigua, France, Italy, Rio de Janeiro, Sardinia, Singapore, Spain and Switzerland.
